I’ve been hearing about TAP: The Ale Project for quite some time now from my boyfriend. He always gets excited talking about how good the sandwiches and the beers are here. So one weekend, we found ourselves walking towards its direction.

Located in Mong Kok, G/F, 15 Hak Po Street, a neighbourhood of great restaurants and dessert places, TAP was filled with patrons as early as 12noon. According to TAP’s website, bread has been inextricably linked with beer since the beginning of civilization and forms the foundation of their food menu. It is the magical combination of cereal, water and yeast that underpins them both. Among their sourdough breads, they feature a special “beer bread” baked with fermented malted barley and designed exclusively for TAP.

As soon as we were handed out the menu, Greg knew exactly what we should get:

Retired Superman (whole HK$118) – signature beer bread, sweet ham, turkey, salami, crispy bacon, runny fried egg, cheddar, dill pickles, red onion, tomato, avocado, horseradish aioli

Crispy Cajun Wings with Fermented Tofu Ranch (HK$58)

Deep Fried Bacon (HK$38)

Coey’s special (HK$50) – Dragonfruit, Cucumber, Lavender, Lemon and Honey Soda

The service was pretty fast, but we managed to take some quick ‘~artsy~’ snaps by the window.

Our drinks arrived first, I had the house soda while he had his “hair of the dog“.

First food to arrive was the chicken wings. You see, we were pretty hungover from our birthday celebration so having oily food was a sweet treat for us. The fermented tofu ranch was a nice twist to this. It was served hot but we managed to eat it within minutes, haha!

After we devoured the chicken wings, the deep fried bacon arrived! Guys, you have no idea how much I love bacon. Even though it’s not really good for me, I just couldn’t resist it (just like your ex that you know is bad news but you still cannot let go, lol joke)

But seriously, look at that!

Last but definitely not the least was the sandwich. We weren’t finished yet at admiring how yum the bacon was so we were a bit overwhelmed by this time. This sandwich was massive and so good! The bread was delicious and everything was fresh.

If you’re visiting Hong Kong, I’m sure Mong Kok is part of your itinerary so make sure you check out TAP: The Ale Project while you rest your tired feet and fill your hungry tummies.
