The 4S1M-Yamaha Racing Team powered by BRT and Racing Force struck silver twice at the Clark International Speedway last June 3 & 4, 2017. This second leg of the Eneos Philippine Motorsports Championships saw a more hopeful 4S1M-Yamaha racing team looking to overturn the results of the preceding leg at Batangas last April. The 150CC Underbone King and 115CC Underbone Riding Mega Force races proved to be their source of success for the day with Herbert Lopez and Mark Djereck Ondillo both posting wins.
For this race, 4S1M-Yamaha brought once again its finely tuned 150CC Sniper motorbikes and 160CC Mio scooters. These were fully decked out in impressive race-spec parts. From its newer 4S1M fuel-injected engines, Replica PRO racing pipes, and Nissin brakes and brake pads, to the custom Racing Boy grips and FDR tires, the team was well-prepared to tackle the unique challenges posed by the much longer Clark track and the inconsistent weather conditions.
“We spent a lot of time and sleepless nights preparing,” says Chief Mechanic Joji San Victores, as he oversaw last minute tweaks and tune-ups to the team rides. “We took the lessons from last leg and applied the improvements here,” he continues. This sentiment was echoed by 4S1M-Yamaha’s team manager Ronald Uy who declared his confidence for the current setup of the team’s bikes.
The first day of the competition once again featured qualifying time trials that determined the starting positions of the racers during the following day’s actual races. While the performance of the three racers—Herbert Lopez, Mark Djereck Ondillo, and Jeff Teopengco—was lauded by their teammates and manager, their ultimate positions for the actual race the following day left the team feeling a little apprehensive.
The second day of actual races opened on a somewhat gloomy and rainy note with downpours occasionally closing the track off for inspection and checking. When the 150CC Underbone Race finally kicked off at around 1 in the afternoon, both Lopez and Ondillo were determined to win. Though their start was somewhat slow and the competition fierce, the pair overcame all challenges to charge into a solid second place finish. Everyone was nonetheless pleased with the performance of the team as a whole with team manager Uy commenting: “These were good wins. We need to use this momentum to carry us through the rest of the season.”
The third leg of the 2017 Philippine Motorsports Championships will head back to where it began at the Batangas Racing Circuit on July 8-9, 2017. The 4S1M-Yamaha Racing Team powered by BRT and Racing Force is optimistic it can build on it successes and see victory once again.
