When it comes to having a facial or microdermabrasion (diamond peel), I always choose what’s usually cheaper. So that means going to those salons in the malls and getting a treatment from a regular technician, not a dermatologist.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m sure they are trained to do the routine for the kind of service that you ask for. I just always get turned off when they try do hard sell for add-on services or for you to buy their products. And sometimes I feel like they aren’t really recommending what’s the best for you, instead they give you the options of what’s best for their business.

So when I discovered DermHQ, a Dermatology & Laser Center owned and operated by Dr. Gaile Robredo – Vita with a team of board-certified dermatologists of the Philippine Dermatological Society, I knew that I’ll be in good hands. I visited DermHQ in Makati (they have a branch in Malate, Manila too) and was surprisingly happy to see that she has the complete technology for whatever treatment that your skin might need.

Dr. Gaile is a very warm and nice person. You’d easily feel at ease when you talk about your skin problems. She asked me what products I use and what my skincare routine is. I also like the fact that she didn’t offer the expensive treatments instead she really explained what my skin needs and what she will do.

I have oily and acne prone skin with some acne marks so she highly recommended that I have a microdermabrasion treatment. I also have 3 zits that she injected with mild steroids (the day after, all the zits were gone!).

She was very patient in explaining everything she was doing. It was my first time to have a proper dermatologist! (Though I remember when I was way younger, I’d accompany my mom to her dermatologist in SM Cubao, I may or may not have my first facial with her, but you get my point I hope!)

She made sure that I was comfortable all throughout the treatment. It was actually very quick, like less than an hour. She calls it a lunch break procedure because most of her clients visit her on their lunch breaks to have microdermabrasion and will still have time to eat then go back to work. There’s no downtime, no peeling and you can wear makeup after if you wish. Her secretary was also very professional and accommodating.

Other salons have their own product line that will be offered to you during or after your treatment. Here in DermHQ, they only carry and use the trusted skincare brands from all over the world. I received trial sizes of Avène that I am now currently using. I haven’t noticed any breakouts yet so I think these are working fine for me.

At the end of the treatment, Dr. Gaile gave me her personal number so if I had any questions or problems after the treatment, I can easily contact her.

After my microdermabrasion treatment in DermHQ, my skin feels smoother and didn’t experience additional breakouts. Then again, this is only my first session but I really look forward to the next one. I’ll surely document my skin’s progress so you will all see how good DermHQ is. I also have another post about skincare routine as recommended by Dr. Gaile so watch out for that! I know I’m talking about microdermabrasion on this post but DermHQ also offers laser treatments and many more.
